Vegan leather doesn’t use animal hides, it’s man-made leather made from synthetic materials. Therefore, vegan leather is not real leather. Faux leather and vegan are almost same things. You must know the difference between real leather and vegan leather that nobody can cheat you when you are purchasing a leather item for you.
What is vegan leather?
As we discussed, vegan leather and faux leather are the same leather, but they are not quite same leather.
Vegan leather is artificial leather, also known as synthetic leather. Vegan leather is made of polyurethane and also made of sustainable materials such as cork, pineapple leaves, apple peels, recycled plastic, and other fruit waste that is used to make clothes, footwear, bags, jackets, and many other things. All synthetic leather is cheaper than genuine leather. Vegan leather has less ability to breathe because it doesn’t have pores like genuine leather. Vegan leather is a more environmentally friendly product because it doesn’t need animal hides, but not always because it contains toxic chemicals.
The smell of vegan leather:
Vegan leather and real leather smell are not the same. Vegan and faux leather are made of PU or PVC that has a smell of chemicals. It mostly emits a fishy odor. PVC may give off some dangerous toxins that are harmful to your health.
Faux leather is artificial leather, also known as leatherette, made from a plastic base that is used to make different leather items. Made to look like genuine leather, but it isn’t real leather. Faux leather does not use animal hides. Faux leather has some pros and cons, as every artificial leather has. Faux leather has properties that make it easy to clean, soft and pliable, and water-resistant. The appearance of faux leather is classic as genuine leather because it imitates real leather. Faux leather is less pricey than real leather.
